Sabbath Moments

We all need times in which we are refreshed physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Fellow Catholic blogger Colleen Spiro refers to these times as “Sabbath moments,” and she hosts a meme each Saturday where she and others share about their moments of refreshment from the week. My Sabbath moments:

On Sunday, our parish’s catechumenate class, which I assist with, enjoyed some delicious Krispy Kreme coffee and donuts while we discussed that day’s scripture readings for mass as well as the Church’s teachings on the fourth commandment, including its implications not just for the family but for society too. Donuts, coffee, God’s word, and spiritual teaching–what a great combination! 🙂

I’ve been doing my best to stick with my daily Bible readings, following a plan to complete the whole Bible in a year. And for the last few days I’ve been praying the rosary daily as well. Though my mind tends to wander quite a bit (I suspect I have adult ADD to some degree), it’s always relaxing to get into the Word and pray the rosay. I can feel myself relax as I go through each decade…

Last night my parents and I watched Toy Story 3, a delightful conclusion to the Toy Story series. It had a wonderful story line and great computer animation (which has come a long way since the first Toy Story film–they can create a lot more detail, such as people’s hair and the textures of stuffed animals). Always enjoyable to see a good clean movie.

Colleen Spiro mentioned in her Sabbath Moments post that enjoying the falling rain one evening this week was an enjoyable experience, and I know what she means. I remember enjoying rainy days as a child. While I of course like a sunny day as much as the next person, I still can find the falling rain pleasant too. The Irish singer Enya has a lovely song called “It’s in the Rain” that captures this feeling. So Colleen, this one’s for you:
