  1. Amen! CS Lewis always seems to hit the nail on the head.

    • Yes, it seems he typically did. And I love his reference to a bottle of port! If all we want is a brief escape from our problems, then we’re missing the point about our faith!

  3. One of my crit partners fusses about the faith-related struggles my characters face. “I always think religion should be a comfort,” he said. Took me a while to realize why that struck me wrong.

    • That’s right. A life of faith isn’t a leisurely stroll through a rose garden. It’s often more like hacking your way through dense forest!

    • Not only would your friend’s characters be uninteresting . . . they would also bear no likeness to reality!

      • Well, if you’re not dealing in faith issues, anyway.

  4. What a great quote. C.S. Lewis was such a great writer full of the British wit and artfulness I’ve admired almost since I could read.
