Some Hanukkah Harmony

This music video, by a group of young Jewish fellows calling themselves the Maccabeats, has been making the rounds online, and it’s just too good for me not to pass along as well:

Awesome job, Maccabeats!

Hanukkah celebrates the Maccabean revolt, which took place after the division of Alexander the Great’s empire. (The Maccabean revolt is recorded in the biblical books of First and Second Maccabees.) The Hebrews, as the song indicates, successfully threw out the Greek oppressors. According to the Talmud, when the temple in Jerusalem was reclaimed and cleansed, there was only enough oil available to keep the menorah burning for one day, but it burned for eight days. Hence, Hanukkah is celebrated over 8 days.

To any Jewish folks reading this: I hope you had a wonderful Hannukah this year! 🙂

  1. Love it!

  2. It’s great to see young men having good, clean fun and celebrating their faith. If only they knew the Messiah has come and remains with us!

    • True, Judaism was meant to find fulfillment in Yeshua Ha-Mashiach, Jesus the Messiah. But I too am glad to see young fellows such as these celebrating God’s work among His people.
