Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

It’s that time of year again when we all get to be Irish. My parish is having a St. Patrick’s Day party, complete with green beer. (Alas, yours truly is not able to attend…)

So who was St. Patrick? Here’s a cute video that gives a capsule account of the saint’s life:

You can also find some additional information about him, including a little quiz, at Beliefnet.

I’ll close with a portion of a prayer ascribed to St. Patrick (called his “Breastplate Prayer,” the full text of which can be found here):

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
